Maurice was born and raised in San Francisco and gained an appreciation
for music and the arts early in life. Maurice grew up watching his
father paint and listening to him play flamenco and classical guitar
as well as the banjo. At the age of eleven, Maurice's imagination was
peaked by the movie "Star Wars" which stoked his interest in Super-8
film-making. He soon began shooting mock space battles and his
friends skateboarding in San Francisco and the local skateparks of
the late 70's. Friends who later formed the foundation of the San
Francisco skateboarding and skate punk music scene in the 1980's.
In the early 80's he found his way back into BMX freestyle
bicycle riding and soon began doing shows and competing around the
world as a professional (the first born in San Francisco) riding for
the Skyway Freestyle team and was a founding member of the Curb Dogs. He is now
a Software Engineer by trade and works within the community to help
young BMX riders gain access to skateparks as a founding member of
the BMX Riders Organization.
Maurice has been a San Francisco homeowner and landlord since 1997 and
believes in an affordable and livable city with diversity and culture as
its trademarks. "The recent upheaval in the dot-com market provides a
wonderful opportunity for those who really love San Francisco to rebuild
its cultural roots."
